Personal care services, also known as non-medical home care or attendant care, focus on assisting individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) when they are unable to perform them independently due to a physical or cognitive condition. These services do not require a patient to be homebound or need skilled medical care. Qualifying conditions or situations often include:

  • Age-Related Decline:
    • Seniors who need assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Disabilities:
    • Individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities that impair their ability to perform ADLs.
  • Chronic Illnesses:
    • People with chronic conditions that affect their energy levels, mobility, or cognitive function, making it difficult to manage personal care tasks.
  • Recovery from Illness or Injury:
    • Individuals who need temporary assistance with ADLs while recovering, even if they do not require skilled medical care.
  • Cognitive Impairments:
    • Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias who require supervision and assistance with personal care and daily routines.

Eligibility for personal care services is often based on an assessment of the individual’s ability to perform ADLs and can be covered by various sources, including Medicaid, long-term care insurance, or private pay.

Who Pays for Personal Care?

Unlike Hospice and Home Health Care, most medical insurance companies do not cover private-duty nursing.

The good news is that for less than the cost of dinner and a movie, you can get help when you need it most. Even better information is that long-term care insurance will cover this. Call us for our pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Care

Are your caregivers insured and bonded?

Yes. Each caregiver is an employee of Active Personal Care. As part of the hiring process, we performed an extensive background check. To ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, we cover each caregiver with general liability and worker’s compensation insurance.

How can I verify a shift was completed?

Caregivers can only clock in and out unless within a specific geographical radius of your home. Any notes, activities, and needs from a caregiving shift are documented using an electronic charting system. Active Personal Care’s office staff can see all scheduled visits and whether they were completed. If there are any concerns, please don’t hesitate to call us to verify.

Do I pay the caregiver directly?

No. You will never be asked to pay the caregiver directly. Active Personal Care bills you for our services twice a month and will send you an invoice accordingly.

Will my family members always receive care from the same caregiver?

We understand that trust in a long-term caregiving relationship comes from repeated visits by the same person over time. We try to ensure this happens, but it is only sometimes possible. If your loved one receives care for many hours in a day or at different times throughout the week, scheduling more than one caregiver in a given week may be necessary.

What does your personal care cost?

Personal home care visits are billed on an hourly basis. The cost of private-duty nursing in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas depends on the hours needed, the time of day, and who will provide care. We can set up a free, in-home consultation to establish a plan of care and what the exact cost will be based on your needs.

How is the privacy of my personal information maintained?

Active Personal Care follows all applicable federal and state personal and health care information privacy guidelines. Your information will never be sold or given to any unauthorized individuals without your consent.
